1.3 Policies, Procedures, Programs & Funding
Candidates research, recommend, and implement policies, procedures, programs and funding strategies to support implementation of the shared vision represented in the school, district, state, and federal technology plans and guidelines. Funding strategies may include the development, submission, and evaluation of formal grant proposals.
Partnership and Grant Proposal
The Partnership and Grant Proposal was completed in the Instructional Technology Leadership course. The purpose of this assignment was to research and summarize one grant that might support a technology-enhanced project and propose one partnership to support a school. To complete this assignment, I had to develop background information about grants and their purpose. I had to research what grants are available for Georgia educators and review eligibility requirements. The grant that I chose to spotlight is called the Best Practices Grant. It is a grant that is available to any Georgia certified educators through an application process. I also researched school partnerships to complete this assignment. I decided to focus on a larger scale partnership as my school is already supported by several small local businesses, and I determined that Six Flags Over Georgia would be a beneficial partner.
The Partnership and Grant Proposal demonstrated mastery of Standard 1.3 because the proposal gave me the opportunity to research and recommend funding strategies to support implementation of the shared vision. The assignment also took me through the steps of the research procedures for looking for partnerships and grants. Finally, by providing this proposal to the administrators and educators at my school, the Partnership and Grant Proposal could essentially be implemented to benefit the technology plans.
By completing this artifact, I learned how much funding is available for teachers if they look in the right places. Many businesses and associations are willing to support teachers who are trying to provide meaningful learning opportunities for their students. Also, I discovered that research and the application process for grants and partnership can be extensive, but that does not mean it is not worth it or feasible. As a future technology facilitator, it is important that I am comfortable and willing to apply for grants and help teachers apply for grants to fund important technology-based projects. Also, as a school leader, I should understand the steps for researching and work with school partners. If I were to do this project differently in the future, I would have actually gone through the steps of applying for the grant that I found through my research. I think that would have been an important experience as an educator and something that I could have included in my resume.
Depending on the basis of the grant and/or partnership, this assignment could impact school improvement, faculty development, or student learning. The grant and partnership that I researched would most likely impact student learning. The Best Practices Grant that I researched is meant to be used on inspiring projects that are completed with students, and, ultimately, wants to increase student achievement. The school partnership proposal would also impact student learning because the purpose of the partnership is to provide funding for student-based activities and projects including after school clubs. The impact could be assessed by analyzing pre and post data for the grant and the partnership. This would show exactly how students were impacted.
